Alright just got the website figured out from the new changes.I will be on the water tomorrow and thursday so stay tunedfor reports. Now if I can find the program for my camera I got plenty of alsome pictures to post. The fish are biting pretty good.Kings, spanish, cobia and the dolphin are thick this year.Check us out tomorrow and should have the word on when and where.
We have had some computer issues and been extremely busy so here is how its been going. I took the Hauser crowd from Hickory last week and he came with the female re-onforcements! I had two rising seniors ready to rumble or lay in the bow soaking up sun whichever the situation called for. We managed to catch some kings and sharks ending up having having a good time with some good folks. Chance you better lookout I think she can take you!! You know what I'm talking about.
The fish are biting good both inshore and out as we are busy with all star baser ball right now. Tripp is on the Shallotte nine year old team and they are 2 and 0 going into tomorrow night. Our coach pitch team is still in the hunt with a 1 and 1 record. For the next week or so Tripp and Austin will more likely be on the mound or in catchers gear than in the boat!!
Capt. Ryan, Brian Aycock and myself headed to Port Fourchon to fish the third leg of the SKA Pro tour with Capt. Forrest Taylor on the thats my dog. We couldn't get any kings out of the 30 pound range which does little for you in the gulf. But we whacked the red snapper and managed to bring some home for the table and what a treat. We even figured out how to catch them on butterfly jigs consistently. Put a pogie on the hook of the jig and reel it up just off the bottom and hold on!!
Capt. Chris and I had the pleasure of taking long time freinds and customers to the stream last week. They are better known as the "Russell Boys" and they laid a whoopin on the Mahi. We had 16 and only one cow with a couple of bulls tipping the boga grip just over 30. What a day. The fish are biting well some give us a call!!
Thursday morning Capt. Chris and I met our long time customers from Lawson Underground at the dock while day was breaking. Brian, Pops, John and John climbed aboard and we headed for the 100-400 area. Soon after getting there we were hooked up with Mahi and that continued until we headed back in the late afternoon. We had all gaffers and ended up with a pretty impressive fish box. These guys are a good crew and Brian even Captained the ship for most of the way home! Friday morning we struck out to same place with high expectations but were met with 4 to 5 foot seas slohing like a washing machine. We set lines and fished hard all day and could only manage a couple of Mahi and one wahoo. The weather change shut them right down. If your wondering how you tell the John's apart one of them has some serious gas issues, I'll leave it at that!!
Tripp and I also had a stream trip this weekend with with Lindsey Nance, Bengie and Lisa Cox for some birthday fishing. We headed back to the same place and Tripp rigged baits as we set lines. We had a triple strike and went one for three just after getting lines out. But soon after that we had another triple and went 3 for 3 so it was like revenge. Tripp was letting Bengie have the gaffing duties until he swatted Lisa's first 2 fish off at the boat. So Tripp gaffed her next ones and put'em on ice. We nicknamed Bengie flyswatter. Maybe it will stick. It was a great day as we left the stream and dropped on some nice B-liners to finish the day! Back at it in the morning so stay tuned.
Kurt and I were invited to fish with Linwood and Tom and Morris Vickers aboard the BIRD DOG Saturday. We headed out in 3 to 4 foot seas around 6:30 am as Tom pointed the bow toward the 100/400. We realized after the currents of the stream set in we were fishing 5 to 6 footers. Morris set his spread with Kurt and I following suit and soon it was on. Linwood settled in the chair with what I beleive as good yellowfin. Th fish never surfaced and was staying down with brute force. Almost at the transom the hook pulled, once again thats fishin. We hit the Mahi pretty hard and had several 20 or better. Overall it was a great day fishing with freinds, hope to do it again soon.
Tripp, Hunter K, Preston, Keith and myself headed to the bluewater Saturday. We fished the Scarp area and did real well with Mahi. The biggest one tipped the scales just under 30 pounds. Thats a nice bull. Most of our bites came on the ledge between 175 and 250 feet of water. Tripp and Hunter K would double team the fish taking turns reeling and assisting each other in moving the rod. We even let Hunter handle the rod on one as Tripp sunk the steel and hauled him over the side. He turned him loose in the bottom of the boat and Tripp ran to the stern as Keith was saying what you running from you can't just let him go? When Keith looked back Preston and I were standing on the cooler!! I told him if that fish gets between your legs you'll find out what he was running from. Those Mahi can switch your legs worse than your mama ever could. The fishing has definitly turned on with one of the more aggressive Mahi bites I can remeber.
We have had some issues with the site but hopefully we are back in the game now! I had a trip last Monday with some Hickory boys taking a break from the construction business. We set out to the tower and jigged a well full of live bait, including cigar minnows, grunts and b-liners. We hit the east side with no luck and started back to the west and finally found the fish around lunch and hit them pretty good. This was a interesting group. Jeff and Dennis had been with me before but they brought a cowboy with them named Chris. He rode that coffin box like a rodeo bull and it threw him like one also. I saw him about 3 feet in the air, when he landed on the box he spoke a little french and started to the back of the boat, before I could slow down he did another jump and landed on the floor with a loud slap. But they also brought Tim who was there to look after Chris. He checked on him and let me know he was all right and we continued on. This was all after he buried a sabiki hook in his hand while jigging bait. We caught cobia, kings, jacks, and a large bull shark. This was a good group and we had a lot of fun! My camera was on the blink but hopefully I'll get some picts through e mail.
Well its time for the second Annual Tripp and Austin's backwater battle. We have a guaranteed prize structure for youth and lady anglers. We also will be providing dinner from 6pm until with Ricky Moore,Morris and Tom Vickers manning the grill. There will be barbeque and deer meat with all the fixins. Raffle tickets will be avaliable for some pretty cool prizes. We added a bluefish prize this year but it is under the youth category. Ya'll come on down and check us out the entry fee is 125.00 with calcutta's avaliable if you choose. The overall winner is a the most aggregate weight with a trout and flounder. If there is no one with both types of fish it will go to the largest fish.
Kurt, Tripp, Sarah, Lindsey and I set out today to try to catch some reds, and speckled trout. We set anchor in the waterway near Ocean Ilse Bridge and got our presentaion ready. We set a spread of live shrimp under corks and commenced to fishin. Capt. Kurt set out a carolina rig on the bottom and got the first bite which was nice black drum. The show of the day was when, Lindsey, who had never been saltwater fishing, set the hook in a 6 pound black drum and it was on. She follwed the fish around the boat several times on 10 pound class tackle, screaming ohh and ahh and I know heard I can't 20 times before Tripp stepped over the transom and lipped the fish to haul it in. The lipping was beacuse we had forgotten the landing net! Sarah also boated a nice drum but have to say Lindsey's was bigger! If you think I'll hear back from that statement I'd say your right. As the day went on we caught and released some redfish, several black drum from 3 to 6 pounds and a speckled trout for tablefare. The backwater is happening hope to have our inshore boat ready real soon!
